What is Freestyle Ice?

Freestyle Ice is a dedicated figure skating session designed for skaters to practice programs, jumps, spins, footwork, and other skills in a structured training environment. These sessions provide skaters with ice time allowing them to work independently or with coaches on technique, choreography, and competition preparation. Freestyle Ice is ideal for figure skaters of all levels looking to improve performance and build confidence on the ice. Must have their own skates.

Freestyle Ice Pricing

  • 30 Minute Session: $10

  • 10 Pack of Sessions: $90 ($9 per session avg price)

  • 20 Pack of Sessions: $160 ($8 per session avg price)

  • 50 Pack of Sessions: $350 ($7 per session avg price)

  • Figure Skaters may practice solo or with a Ghost Pirates Ice Cove Staff Coach.

  • Freestyle Ice fees and private coach instruction must be paid for at customer service desk prior to any session.

  • Only Ghost Pirates Ice Cove Staff Figure Skating Coaches are permitted to teach private lessons on these sessions.

Purpose

The Figure Skating Department is committed to providing a safe, positive, and productive training environment for all skaters and coaches. These rules are designed to promote safety, respect, and effective use of freestyle ice.

General Freestyle Rules

1. All skaters must check in with Customer Service before taking the ice.

2. No food or breakable containers are permitted near the ice.

3. Remove all personal belongings and trash at the end of each session.

4. Parents, spectators, and non-participating skaters should not gather near rink doors.

5. Parents and spectators may not coach skaters from any location in or around the rink, including via phone or video calls. Violation may result in the skater being removed from the session.

6. Hockey box benches are reserved for coaches only.

7. Ice doors must remain closed at all times.

8. Skaters must leave the ice if they need to speak with someone off the ice.

9. While on the ice, skaters should be practicing or working with a coach. Coaching other skaters is not permitted.

10. All skaters must remain aware of others and skate responsibly.

11. Less experienced skaters should exercise extra caution; experienced skaters should be patient and courteous.

12. Do not stand still on the ice, especially in jump corners or high-traffic areas.

13. Virtual lessons are permitted only with a Ghost Pirates Ice Cove staff coach and a pre-approved virtual coach.

Right of Way

1. A skater performing a program to music has the right of way.

2. Skaters running their program are encouraged to wear a brightly colored belt, sash, or vest.

3. Skaters in lessons have priority over skaters practicing independently.

  • Program music will be played on a rotating honor-system basis.

  • After a skater's music has been played, they may re-enter the rotation up to two additional times per session.

  • Stopping and restarting music counts as one music play if others are waiting.

  • All music must be acceptable for all ages. Adult language or content will not be permitted.

  • No iPods, Walkman or any device needing headphones are permitted on the ice.

  • Music may not be played excessively loud. Please remember coaches must be able to talk and hear over any music.

Ice dance and pair teams performing lifts, death spirals, spins, or other partnered elements may be unable to stop quickly. All skaters should remain aware of their location and provide adequate space.

  • Props are permitted only during lessons and should be removed as soon as possible.

  •  Skaters should yield to pole harness lessons. Coaches and skaters are expected to remain aware of harness activity for everyone's safety.

The following may result in immediate removal from the session:

  • Kicking boards or railings, digging holes, scraping, or stomping the ice.

  • Verbal abuse, harassment, or disrespectful behavior toward skaters, coaches, staff, or spectators.

  • Video recording except as part of a lesson.

  • Wearing headphones or earbuds during freestyle sessions.

  • Using phones or electronic devices on the ice unless authorized for coaching purposes.

A Safe & Respectful Environment

Freestyle ice is a shared training environment. All skaters, coaches, parents, and spectators are expected to act with courtesy, respect, and awareness to ensure a safe and productive experience for everyone.

Failure to follow these rules may result in removal from the session or suspension of freestyle privileges.
